Importance of Language Development in Early Childhood
As a child progress his ability to develop, learn and progress to flourish and raise. Between ages 2-5, children initiate with expanding their pronunciation of words. They say phrases instead of proper sentences and that’s when the brain is active the most and is able to absorb things. They often speak incomplete sentences or words or even say words that don’t necessarily fit. Of course they don’t have a grammatical sense of how to put words. As they grow, they speak more like adults and what they hear from around them.
Language development in early childhood is an essential part of a child’s development. Early language development makes him able to communicate through and express his feelings. To be able to understand and use language is what’s vital in terms of having hold of problem solving and communication skills The best way to develop and initiate stages of language development in early childhood is by doing a lot of talking together of things they point towards, babble or are fond of. 1) Talk With Them:
Talk to your child and promote long conversations. The more you talk to them, the more they will be able to observe and determine the correct phrases and how it's used. If your child babbles, babble back and respond to what he says. The more you talk to him, the more he gets a clearer view of the language.
2) Respond To Your Child:
As a child grows he becomes more active and awaits your response over what he is saying. Let’s begin from when he takes support of gestures to make others understand. Even then, you must respond to it, if he nods consider and say it as a NO. If he points over anything respond like, ‘You want this bear’, ’there you go’. It will help them learn more about each phrase and words even if they don’t know before. Moving further when they start connecting phrases, they’ll have a conversation with you for example ‘I go shop’, he starts developing sense for how to put together words to make a sentence. You need to get them learn and correct the phrases every time they say it wrong and it’s the basic step towards language development in early childhood education. When he grows older and starts speaking words, reply to his sayings and avoid short ones. He learns a new word each day. He’ll understand the difference between words such as ‘yours’ and ‘mine’. He’ll more over understand from your tone whether you’re happy or sad. They’ll start understanding that if you are making them brush teeth, they need to go to the bed.
3) Everyday Talking:
Talk about your daily life, how did your day go and everything. After that ask them about how their day was and what did they do. The aim is to use a lot of new words in the context. Even though if he finds it difficult to understand it doesn’t matter because he will eventually do it as he grows. When your child talks about any situation or how he is feeling, encourage him to talk about past or future. He would develop an understanding of how to refer to it. For example speak to him about where does he wants to go and what are his plans for the upcoming weekend. When you come home from a dinner or an outing, talk about it.
4) Read With Your Child:
Language development in early childhood should focus reading which includes words in different sentences with various contexts to have a clear understanding of different words. Even if it’s a bedtime story book or more of a complex book, the aim is to make the child catch new words and its understanding. Your child might link to what’s in the book and it’ very useful. Have discussion over the pictures inside and talk about it. Point to the words when you say them and pause to explain its meaning to the child.
5) Show Him Words On Things:
When you visit a store or even go for a drive with your children, we often come across colorful banners around. Such things catch attention of young children and is the best way to make them know and get familiar with different words. They get to learn how printed and spoken words differ. Remember that children learn better while play and through casual interactions.
6) Give Time To Learn and Explore:
Don’t always rush and try making children learn forcefully. It will not only make them run away from learning initially but also loose interest in it. As they grow, so does the learning enhances with time. Just make reading and general conversation of habit to advance the capability to absorb new words. They will learn in their own time.
Language skills are necessary to enable learning and communicate and that’s what makes language development in early childhood even more important. The better it is the more likely is a child able to learn at school. The rules of a language carry assembling of words, using them correctly and be able to understand its meaning in a sentence and individually. Infant babies have conversations too. They enjoy doing it and consider it as an activity and that’s what they learn from the most. As children grow they start learning beyond words and start connecting them to make sentences. They begin learning the grammar rules. Instead of communicating through words, they combine them to form sentences. Pronunciation gets better with time and learning and that’s when kids get more efforts from the teachers and parents to learn. They initiate by making words fit into a sentence.
